Arriving by car

Post code CA12 5SA  

• Exit M6 at junction 40 (Penrith).  About 20 miles to the cottages from here.
• Take A66 west towards Keswick.
• Continue on A66 past Keswick for approx. 2 miles until you reach Braithwaite
• Immediately after Braithwaite take the second left turn off A66, signed 'Thornthwaite Gallery' (brown sign)
• Follow minor road for 1 mile into Thornthwaite village

Please note: CA12 5SA is the same for all of Thornthwaite village and Sat Nav will not accurately direct you to the cottages once in the village.

• Jasmine cottage. Turn left at brown 'Gallery' sign. Jasmine cottage sits on the right side just below the Thornthwaite Gallery. Park either below the cottage on the gravel area against the low dry stone wall or through the gate at the back of the cottage. The entrance door and key safe are at the back of the cottage.

• Fox Howe and Squirrel cottages. Continue on past the brown 'Gallery' sign. A very short distance after this on the right is a bus stop shelter. The cottages are located on the left just past this. A slate 'Croftlands Cottges' sign marks the narrow entrance to the car parking area between a hedge and a wall.

Arriving by train, bus or taxi

• Train. The nearest mainline train station is Penrith (20 miles)

• Bus. The X4 or X5 Penrith to Workington bus services run hourly from Penrith train station to Keswick and take about 45 mins. The X5 continues on through Thornthwaite after stopping in Keswick. The bus stop in the village is outside Fox Howe and Squirrel cottages (a 2 min walk to Jasmine cottage). If you are on the X4 from Penrith you will need to change in Keswick onto an X5 heading for Thornthwaite.   

     Stagecoach bus timetables

• Taxis. The taxi bay in Keswick is at the bus station beside Booths supermarket. Keswick based Davies Taxis offer competitive rates for which you will need to pre book. Bike transfers can also be arranged through them.
